Skippy:
“After The Levees Failed” is, like many episodes of ROX, amazing tv!
This time, though, it’s because we see a national catastrophe not through the media’s eyes, but through the eyes of a close friend. Because of that, it hits very hard, especially at the point where we see B’s reaction when he first enters his house. This is ‘reality tv’, not the crap like “Survivor”!
It affects us because B is our friend; even for those of us who’ve never met him, we know him from all the hours we’ve watched over the years. The B we see isn’t quite the B we’ve grown to know and love, though; we see the effect that Katrina’s devastation has wrought. Katrina has taken a heavy toll on B (and XY, et al), and it shows.
J’s presence in the episode is interesting, to say the least. In a sense, it’s almost buffoonish - with the phone duct-taped to his head, no less - but at the same time, it serves as a metaphor for the idiocy of the government’s impotent response to the catastrophe!
Vitally important episode!!!
