Who Is Nell Smith?

B: Back in the summer of '93, someone named Nell Smith wrote a letter to the editor of the Herald-Times. It was published one Sunday, and I liked it so much that I read it on television in ROX #37. We even gave Nell Smith an on-air salute, and I can tell you that we don't give out salutes lightly. (I think Peg McLaren may be the only other person so honored in the history of the series.)

But we never met Nell Smith, and I have no idea whether she ever saw the show.

Recently I got curious and did a Web search on “Nell Smith.” I found a resumé on-line for one Nell Smith-Miller of Bloomington, Indiana. Could it be the same person? Intrigued, I read through the resumé and discovered that Nell worked at the Herald Times around the time the letter was published. Interesting. And at that same time she also worked at DialAmerica Marketing and the CBS/Columbia House Branch Office...

Now that's downright spooky. I worked at DialAmerica during that time. Were Nell and I rubbing elbows as telemarketers? But more than that, my wife, XY, worked at the HT around the same period. And both XY and I worked at CBS/Columbia House — in fact that's where we met.

So... Nell Smith-Miller, if you're out there, drop us a line. We appear to have a lot in common.
