Note: Xy's fabulous “Dumpster Diving” segment originally appeared in ROX 38, “My Mother, the Doctor,” on 5 October 1993. It's one of our finer moments, and it won an Honor Award in America's College Video Competition (1994). We entered her in the contest because she was in graduate school at the time, and therefore technically eligible. As part of the prize, Xy also won an internship at MTV, which in turn became the subject of ROX 62, “XY in NY.” This is the remixed video version which appeared in that latter episode on 27 September 1994. The original video featured unlicensed samples from “Illistrum” by Art Ensemble of Chicago. In this remixed version, the musical elements are performed by Xy herself. Editor B mans the cam and provides backup vocals.
